Education Students Experience Teaching First−Hand During SOE Week
On July 24 – 27, 2017, the School of Education (SOE) commemorated Education Week with the theme “True Education: Learning by Experiencing.”
Indeed, it was a close−to−reality experience for the Education major students as they participated in the activities prepared for by their officers.
For the entire week, they were required to wear teachers’ attire and several education students were selected to teach some classes. The experience was for them to learn the importance of preparation and patience and to teach them skills necessary to become effective educators in the future.
The SOE week, which was themed “True Education: Learning by Experiencing” opened on Monday evening wherein the club president, Iris Murialle Gonzales, gave a welcome address. There were various events every night for that week. Dr. Arnel Arcenal, the school dean, as well as other SOE faculty, gave their support by being present in the nightly events.
Another highlight of the week−long celebration were the games led by the head of the English department, Ms. Ruby Campos. The activities put to the test the knowledge of the future mentors as they participated in the Word Taboo, Quiz Bee and Impromptu Speaking.
At the end of the celebration, the student teachers shared their testimonies about their teaching experience. They also received certificates in recognition of their participation during the SOE Week.
